I wrote this one year ago. I have been working on not taking things so personally! Usually, I do pretty well - there are times when people's behavior has gotten to me. What I do my very best to remember is: "Typically, the way someone treats us is how they feel about themselves and has far less to do with us." I strive to be kind and to be curious to look past the presenting behavior or tone. I think we will do better as a species when we do this more - I know how grateful I am when people are and have been understanding with me! In years past, I attempted to change people - this was my very toxic trait - wishing they would see another way! I have since learned it was never my place to "fix" anybody but myself - a fact that should have been obvious! Looking at the world, though- this fact doesn't seem so obvious. People try to force others to be like them and have the same perspective - I've been there its a sad place to be. Growth is a beautiful, intimate journey - we all do it at our own rate and style. How great is it that we have so many different perspectives to learn from life is a lot more interesting and fun!!! My goal is always to help - I am sorry when I did more harm than good! Dont let another moment go by without telling the people that you admire how much you love them! On October 18, 2007- early in the morning, my mama lost her battle to breast cancer. She was lovely! The night before- 30 people who adored her were laughing in her room at Allegheny General. I remember thinking that the love was so beautiful even in such a devastating moment. As a child it was such a thrill to make her giggle! It would surprise me when it happened- I didn't know I was funny- but she did! Sometimes I hear her laugh when I'm in crowded spaces and though I haven't discovered her I always scan to find her. So many miles since I saw her last- I have learned so much! I often wonder if she would enjoy riding on the back of my motorcycle? I bought my first one soon after she had passed. I know for a fact she would love that I'm learning to fly- and she would want to travel with me all over- not to mention sponsor the trips. 😊 I am grateful for the lessons that I have learned- I miss her everyday. I encourage you to live- truly live. Do things that scare you! Make mistakes! Learn all that you can! Giggle! Always show love!

Found this old post from 2018: In the #olden days, #snapchat didn't have all the filters, that these #wippersnappers have today. We had to use our imagination to make our own adjustments- like this one from #2013. (A gallon of gas was less than $3) These days, #photoshop and #filters are pretty much standard practice- just about everything we see has been modified. The images in our mind are no different. What we tell ourselves and allow ourselves to focus on is very powerful. Our brains will believe what we repeatedly feed it. If we paint the picture that we are no good and don't have any worth- then our brain starts searching our environment for proof. We interpret events to support our beliefs which adds another brushstroke to the image we have painted. If your mind has told you horrible things- it lied to you. You have plenty of value! You are capable! You are enough. You deserve love. You can improve your life. If no one has ever told you this before, I am telling you now. Believe it- and remind yourself constantly! You must- we must- paint our pictures in these truths. We are not limited by our circumstances or by the opinions of others! Don't believe me yet?Every day, I transform seemingly worthless things into useful, functional art. Trust me, you are of great value!!!

Working on the airfield has allowed me to meet some incredible people! I met Alejandro while he was lined up waiting to fuel his 1985 #cessna172. He told me he was going to fly some patterns around the airport and that I could jump in, and i did! His style is smooth and concise, making near perfect right angles and a smooth glide slope to kiss the runway with the perfect tire churps. Flying with this beautiful man reminded me of when my dad was teaching me how to drive a manual transmission in the KH parking lot when I was 13. As I jumped on the gas and dumped the clutch, and stalled- obviously 😃. Before I restarted the 89 fFord Ranger agian, my dad said, "Anyone can do it fast, my boy- the trick is to be smooth- ease into it." Ive done my best to remember his advice in all parts of life- as I learn to fly his lesson stays with me and I apply it to a new endeavor. Thanks for the ride my friend! #KeithParts

As I lay in bed, realizing that I officially fly airplanes (though not so official, simply have flown a total of 2 making "airplane" plural) I keep wondering how my dad would be reacting. I believe that he would be excited and proud even. He would call me up and make subtle pilot move references- calling me "Ace" or "Maverick", and would ask, "When the next time The Red Barron flies again?" That thought makes me smile! My dad lived his life as an example for us all! He taught me that we are all capable of extraordinary things. I take his lessons and I will learn to fly. How are you living extraordinarily? I have stopped focusing on what I dont want - instead I am asking for what I want! Can I get my pilots license in February of 2022? Can I stop taking things that others do so personally? Can I have a successful talk show that connects people with different backgrounds and experiences? Can I set down the anger that i have carried for so long? Can I heal the trauma that i have experienced? Can I live mindfully? Can I afford airplanes? Can I have peace? Can I be adored ? Can I be a better friend? Can you start asking for what you want instead of bringing attention to what you dont?

As a child, I had the privilege of spending most days working with my father in his garage. There, he taught me not only his trade of auto mechanics, but also how to live as a man. Keith Mitchell, my dad, was a powerful man, balanced with kindness and a calm way about him. He was very hospitable, hardworking, and he never hesitated when called onto do the right thing- even when the inconvenience and cost were great to him. When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, all the while dealing with his own illnesses, my father focused all of his energy on caring for her needs. Even in the face of such suffering, my father was always encouraging to my mother and found ways to make her laugh up until her last breath. My dad believed that people are not limited to the state we happen to find ourselves in or by the opinions of others. He saw the beauty in every person, thing, and situation, and was able to reveal that to me - showing me that we as human beings are capable of achieving greatness. After being sick for nearly two decades and surviving as a widower for eight years, my father fell asleep in death during the summer of 2015. I began designing and building furniture from parts he had left over in his stock- this is my little way of honoring his ideals. Each piece is a reminder of what he believed- that we all have areas in our lives that need to be repurposed or upcycled. We need to stop seeing things as they are, but as they could be. We all must strive to see beauty no matter how difficult life proves to be, and we must help each other focus on that distinct beauty. Today I celebrate my mother! ... "On October 18, 2007 early in the morning, Georgalyn Mitchell- a woman of sterling integrity- died of cancer. Despite her family and countless friends who loved her, she kept her illness as quiet as possible. When folks would ask what she needed or how they could help she would get uncomfortable because she hated so much to put people out. She was loved for her strength as a woman and mother, a loving friend and dear sister." It was my favorite thing to make her laugh- what a thrill! The night before she passed the hospital was filled with love and laughter. I remember thinking that even in the saddest of times love still shows through, just look for it.

These days people know me as a #woodworker- I grew up as a mechanic working mostly with metals. We can learn anything. This was an early set of #livingroom tables that I built the first year of #KeithParts What will you have me build?

Until we learn to value ourself, we cannot expect others to... As I was going through an old album I rediscovered a set of metal and wooden furniture that I designed my first year of #KeithParts. I didn't charge nearly enough and don't believe I got paid completely for the job- I only have myself to blame. I've learned to place value on my gifts and to charge accordingly.
